Right To Play
Right To Play, an implementing partner of the UNHCR in the ninemillion.org campaign used the newly distributed ninemillion.org balls to promote a sense of community and fair play at a recent holiday football tournament in Rhino Refugee Camp, Uganda. More than 20 teams of children under 14 participated in a two week holiday football league. Each Right To Play volunteer local coach received four balls which were used during practices, warm up and games. Tania Wybenga Right To Play’s Country Manager in Uganda says "The ninemillion.org balls have been met with a lot of excitement within the settlement. Children enthusiastically put the balls to use when playing football, be it an organized match or a friendly game of pick-up. The great thing is that balls have tended to last longer than the balls we usually distribute in field." Right To Play has worked in the Rhino Refugee Camp since 2002. Local Coaches and International Volunteers implement programs for youth between the ages of five and nineteen. Regular activities include skills-based health education programs focused on healthy lifestyles and the prevention of the spread of HIV/AIDS. Over 120 balls were allocated to be distributed to children in the Rhino Camp. The balls will be included in equipment boxes at primary schools and community centers, which are managed by the Right To Play Coaches. Through Right To Play sport and play activities the balls will be used to develop healthier, happier children.
