UNHCR, the United Nations refugee agency, has partnered with Right To Play, Nike and Microsoft via MSN to launch a global awareness campaign, ninemillion.org, to provide education and sport for the world’s 9 million refugee youth.

Donations raised through the campaign will support learning and play through:

Fransisco Hseik, refugee from Myanmar, age 12
I moved here with my family in 2000.
My family is planning to move to the United States, but I would like to return to Myanmar some day. My favorite football player is Ronaldo. I like to play football because it makes me happy and strong.
Meet other refugee youth

Who is a refugee?
Someone who flees her or his country because of well founded fear of persecution. Today, UNHCR cares for 20.8 million people in 117 countries: refugees, internally displaced persons, returnees, asylum seekers and other categories. Nine million of them are refugee youth who need our help. The figures here illustrate the severity of the problem.

UNHCR has counted 20.8 million refugees worldwide, of which:

9,022,778 are children
2,053,100 are “stateless people”
839,200 are “asylum seekers” who have fled their own country for fear of persecution
