Funds raised

Fund-raising is vital to the success of ninemillion.org, and the group raised its first US$1 million which will be matched by the Nike Foundation.

UNHCR’s corporate partner Manpower organized a fundraising event for ninemillion.org in Brussels, Belgium, which involved its employees.

At their annual kick-off meeting, Manpower Belgium collected 3000 Euros for ninemillion.org. 500 employees from Manpower Belgium split up into teams to play ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’. The different questions provided a way of introducing aspects of the company’s strategy for 2007. For each correct answer, each team won 10 Euros for the ninemillion.org campaign.

All teams responded enthusiastically. It helped them learn more about Manpower’s new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy and the company’s involvement with ninemillion.org. Also, employees became highly motivated to collect as much money as possible for the charity. By becoming actively involved they started to feel a sense of responsibility for the project.

A survey conducted by Manpower in several European countries in 2005, showed the increasing impact that CSR issues are having on job-seekers choice of employer (What makes a great employer?). This kick-off event showed how much that is true.
